The Xpad slim is unquestionably an improved style than the initial Xpad; it's wider, thinner, does not have a material on rock bottom that becomes frayed once many months of use, does not have that annoying ""lip"" on rock bottom between the plastic and also the cloth that hurts your legs (because there is not any cloth on the slim), and has vents on every section of the X.
There are 2 noteable drawbacks, though. the primary is that the Lapinator and (with the Mousetizer addon if you wish to use a true mouse with it) is frankly an improved product than the Xpad for home use. It's more well-off and has house for a mouse (with the Mousetizer). that is to not say that the Xpad is not price using, however. The Xpad is little enough and durable enough that it's excellent to place in an exceedingly backpack when you are bringing your laptop in different places, whereas the Lapinator is a smaller amount transportable however more well-off and has house for a mouse, and thus is healthier suited to use at home where it will not be transported in different places fairly often. As such, they are each nice product, they are simply fitted to completely different functions.
The other disadvantage I've noticed is that right out of the box, the Xpad Slim fully REEKS of rubber. once I open my backpack with the Xpad in it, the smell immediately hits me, hard. I did not notice this downside in the slightest degree with the previous version of the Xpad. i am hoping that'll flee once a month or thus.
